Project description:
As part of the ETCS deployment on the trans-European Rhine–Alpine Corridor, the interlocking technology on the Karlsruhe–Rastatt section is being converted from conventional relay interlocking technology to an electronic interlocking (Elektronisches Stellwerk, ESTW). An ESTW enables the centralised control of large interlocking areas, with part of the technical equipment located in decentralised interlocking units (ESTW-A) close to the trackside infrastructure.
We support DB InfraGO with the feasibility study for the extension of the Rastatt ESTW and assess the most economically viable and operationally robust interlocking architecture. The focus is on optimising the locations of the decentralised interlocking units (ESTW-A) based on an analysis of permissible control distances, local site conditions and the existing infrastructure.
The study focuses on evaluating the different location options against permissible control distances and infrastructure constraints, as well as integrating the line block system into the new interlocking. The results provide the basis for implementing the ESTW migration in accordance with schedule, cost and quality requirements.
